Online golf coaching: does it really work?

Video swing analysis for online golf coaching

Can you really improve at golf with a remote coach? I'm asked that a lot. My answer: yes, as long as you film properly, have a clear plan and real follow-up. Online coaching doesn't replace everything, but it does some things better than a traditional lesson. Here's how it works, and its limits.

What a coach sees in a video

A good face-on and down-the-line video, viewed frame by frame, shows the essentials: posture, alignment, width in the backswing, face position, club path, weight shift, finish. Many faults are easier to see on video than with the naked eye, because you can freeze the frame at the right moment. That's also how I work in lessons: we film, we observe, we understand the cause.

How to film your swing properly

  • Two angles: face-on (camera facing your chest) and down the line (camera behind you, in line with the target).
  • At hand height: put the phone on a tripod or a bag, roughly at hip height.
  • Your whole body and the club in the frame, from the top of the backswing to the finish.
  • Slow motion if your phone has it.
  • Several clubs: a mid-iron and a driver are often enough to start.

What online coaching does better than a lesson

A one-off lesson gives you a correction. The problem comes afterwards: alone on the range, you don't know if you're doing it right. Remote follow-up solves that.

  • Consistency: we talk every week, not once every three months.
  • A written plan: you know what to work on, how and why, at every session.
  • Checking: you send another video, and I tell you whether the change is there or needs adjusting.
  • The course: we also analyze your rounds and your stats, not just your swing.

Its limits, and how to get past them

Remotely, you can't guide a feel by hand, or observe ball flight as precisely as with a TrackMan. Nor do we play the course together. That's why I created a hybrid format: remote follow-up all year round, plus a camp or an on-course session in Marrakech. For players based around Paris, lessons in Paris are also possible at certain times.

How RM Coaching works

Coaching follows the RM Path, in five steps: assessment, foundations, transfer, self-reliance, consolidation. In practice:

  • A free call to review your game and your goal.
  • One video call a week with your coach.
  • Unlimited swing analyses.
  • A personalized practice plan, updated every week.
  • All the Academy content: course, ebooks, stats tool, community.

Two formats: Online, 100% remote, and Hybrid, with a camp or an on-site session. The price is presented during the assessment call. Everything is detailed on the Coaching page.

Who does it work for?

Online coaching works very well for motivated players who can practice at least once or twice a week and play regularly. Wherever you live, all you need is a phone and a driving range. If you'd rather progress on your own, at your own pace, the Online Academy is a better fit.

Frequently asked questions

Can you improve at golf with online coaching?

Yes, as long as you film your swing properly, have a clear plan and regular follow-up. Remote coaching lets you check every week that the changes are holding, which a one-off lesson can't do.

How should you film your swing for a coach?

Film face-on and down the line, phone at hip height, with your whole body and the club in the frame. Use slow motion if possible, with a mid-iron and a driver.

What's the difference between Online Coaching and Hybrid Coaching?

Online Coaching is 100% remote. Hybrid Coaching adds a camp or an on-course session in Marrakech, with a preparation plan before and an action plan after.

How much does online golf coaching cost?

The price is presented during the free assessment call, depending on your goal and the format chosen.
