Marrakech golf courses: Amelkis, Royal Golf, Al Maaden and Akenza

Marrakech is one of the finest golf destinations around the Mediterranean: sunshine almost all year round, top-quality courses and the Atlas as a backdrop. Here are the four courses I take my players to on golf camps, what makes each one unique, and how to choose according to your level.
Royal Golf de Marrakech: the historic course
It's the oldest golf course in Marrakech: its first holes date back to the late 1920s. You play among century-old vegetation, between palm, orange and eucalyptus trees. The club has 27 holes: the historic 18-hole course and a newer 9-hole course, opened in 2008.
Who is it for? All levels. The tree-lined fairways reward accuracy over power: an excellent course for working on strategy and ball placement.

Amelkis: a Palmeraie classic
Opened in 1995, Amelkis is named after a Berber queen and hosted the Moroccan Open a few years after opening. The course has grown to 27 holes, at the foot of the Atlas. Its water features, bunkers and large multi-tiered greens make it one of the most technical courses in Marrakech.
Who is it for? Club players and competitive golfers. The tiered greens force you to pick your landing zone carefully: a real test of your short game and putting.
Al Maaden: the spectacular course
Opened in 2008 and designed by architect Kyle Phillips, Al Maaden is an 18-hole, par-72 course of over 6,500 metres. The layout alternates between rolling valleys and flatter stretches, with elevated tees, water hazards and contoured greens, all lined with palm, cypress and almond trees, with the Atlas in the background on clear days.
Who is it for? Players who enjoy strategy: every hole offers several options. Its large driving range is ideal for technical sessions during a golf camp.
Akenza: the new desert course
Akenza is the newest of the four: an 18-hole course opened in 2025 south of Marrakech, also designed by Kyle Phillips. Its style is unique in Morocco: a desert course, with natural wadis and rocky terrain reminiscent of Arizona's courses, facing the High Atlas.
Who is it for? Players looking for something different. The desert areas are unforgiving: you learn to play the percentages and manage your way around the course.
Which one suits your level?
- You're new to golf or getting back into it: the Royal Golf de Marrakech, for its setting and varied holes, mixing driving range sessions with a few holes.
- You're a club player: Al Maaden and Amelkis, to work on strategy and short game on demanding greens.
- You're aiming to compete: Amelkis and Akenza, for course management and accuracy.
Changing courses during a golf camp is a real bonus: you learn to adapt your game to different holes and greens, just like on tour.
When to play golf in Marrakech
From October to May, conditions are ideal: mild days, beautiful light and courses in good shape. In winter, mornings are cool but afternoons stay pleasant. Summer is very hot: you play early in the morning or late in the day. Remember to book your tee times well in advance in high season.
Play these courses with a pro
During a golf camp in Marrakech, I choose the courses to suit your level and goal, and I take care of the organisation. Would you rather mostly play? The Marrakech golf holiday and the Signature Trip bring together a maximum of 6 players, one date a month from October to June.
Course information (dates, number of holes, architects) comes from the clubs' websites and specialist guides. Green fees and access conditions should be checked directly with each club.
